Your Questions Answered
New to energy healing? Here is everything you need to know about your first Reiki experience at Just Relaxing Palms.
1. What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique that promotes relaxation and stress reduction. It is based on the idea that an unseen 'life force energy' flows through us. When this energy is high and balanced, we feel more capable of happiness and health.
2. How does Reiki work?
During a session, I act as a conduit for healing energy, gently guiding it to where your body needs it most. This helps to clear energetic blockages and restore the natural flow of your system, supporting your body's innate ability to heal itself.
3. Do I need to believe in Reiki for it to work?
Not at all. While an open mind is helpful, Reiki is effective regardless of your belief system. Many skeptics find themselves deeply relaxed or even surprised by the subtle shifts they feel during and after their first session.
4. What does a Reiki session feel like?
Experiences vary, but most clients feel a deep sense of warmth, peace, and relaxation. You might feel subtle tingling, heat from my hands, or simply a quiet stillness. It's often described as a 'glowing radiance' that flows through and around you.
5. How should I prepare for a session?
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing as you will remain fully clothed. Try to hydrate well before and after. It's also helpful to arrive with an intention—something you’d like to release or a feeling you’d like to invite in.
6. What happens during a distance Reiki session?
Energy is not bound by time or space. During a distance session, we connect at a scheduled time. You relax in your own home while I perform the bridge of energy work remotely. Clients often find it just as powerful and restorative as an in-person session.
7. How many sessions should I receive?
While one session can bring immediate relief, Reiki is most effective when used consistently. To address long-term stress or deeper emotional patterns, a series of 3-4 sessions spaced a week apart is often recommended to build momentum.
8. Is Reiki a replacement for medical care?
No, Reiki is a complementary practice. It works beautifully alongside conventional medicine to support the healing process, but it should never be used as a replacement for professional medical or psychological treatment.
